Is Hanshuman My Real Name?

Jul 14, 2017

An introductory post

Scenario 1: Meeting someone for the first time in India.

Myself: “Hi, I’m Hanshuman, nice to meet you!”

Someone I just met, with a puzzled expression: “Oh! You don’t look like one, it sounds like a very Maharashtrian name, but you’re a Sikh?”

Scenario 2: Meeting someone for the first time in Germany.

Myself: “Hi, I’m Hanshuman, nice to meet you!”

Someone I just met, with a puzzled expression: “Oh! You don’t look like one, it sounds like a very German name, but you’re from India?”

That’s right! Before you point out, I do realise that my name comprises of a Hans and a Human. My birth name is indeed Hanshuman. And ever since, my mother calls me Hans (Yes! I was brought up with a German name– in India!), and my sister calls me Hansi (Yes! I was brought up with two German names– in India!). Anyway, in Hindi, my name means a smiling(hans) flower (shuman).

Every time I am meeting someone new, I find it quite funny that they’re so curious– especially when I tell them further that I usually go by the name Hans and I’m a human centred designer. 😉

But anyhow, welcome to my blog! Though, this won’t be my first time blogging, as a matter of fact. I have been blogging since 2013 when I wrote for the University of Dundee for about a year, followed by maintaining my own WordPress for a while as a part of my master’s degree in Design for Services. Recently, I wrote for my company’s blog and now here we are.

So, the aim of this blog is to share my thoughts, interests, activities and everything else that is Design related. I hope you tag along!

Tschau!
